History

Key stage 2 and 3

History aims to develop both the learners chronological understanding and their understanding of people, events, structures, belief systems and politics within societies in the past.  Through this we hope to enable students to develop a greater awareness of their own existence by using topics both new and familiar to provide an interesting framework. History provides a range of experiences and achievements, which contributes to the richness of students` lives according to individual needs and abilities.

The History curriculum is delivered through the areas of:

  • Historical enquiry
  • Using evidence
  • Communicating about the past

The teaching of areas of history is approached in a practical, interactive and experiential manner and makes full use of ICT, group work, role play, excursions, case studies and simulation.

               

Geography

Key stage 2 and 3

Geography aims to enable students to make better sense of their world, particularly an awareness of their personal surroundings and local environment.  We encourage the study of people, places and activities that are relevant to the lives of students. Through this we hope that students will gain an understanding of their relationship with the environment and their place within it. Students are encouraged to assess evidence, negotiate, make decisions, solve problems, work independently and in groups, and learn from each other.

The Geography curriculum is delivered through the areas of:

  • Geographical enquiry
  • Fieldwork and out-of-class learning
  • Graphical and visual literacy
  • Geographical communication

The teaching of these areas of Geography is approached in a practical and interactive manner and makes full use of ICT, group work, role-play, excursions, case studies and simulation.
